Professor Sixto Ramos Jr., was born on June 20, 1942 in Ilocos Norte, Bacara, Philippines. His parents are Sixto Ramos Sr., and Isabel Visitacion-Ramos.  Professor Ramos came to Hawaii in 1955 and lived in Waipahu, where his father had been living and working for over ten years. His mother and two other brothers also came to Hawaii atthe same time. Living in Hawaii along came three other brothers and a sister.

When he was a teenager he was mistakenly beaten up by three gang members. They had mistaken him for his cousin. He was beaten so badly that he was hospitalized. When he got out of the hospital hedecided that he needed to take up a form of self-defense. It was there in Waipahu that went to check out a class thatwas being thaught by Grandmaster Sid Asuncion, founder of the Kenkabo system. This class had a reputation of being rough and tough and that Sid would either make you or break you. He soon found out that everything that wassaid about Sid Asuncion and his method of teaching wastrue. And so after watching a few classes he then decided to join this classthat was being held in the Waipahu Cane Haul Road area.

He joined in 1960. Going up the ranks with Sid Asuncion was not easy. The higher the ranked guys at that time were Professor's Albert Dacascos and Alfred delaCruz. These were Sid Asuncion's first two black belts followed by Sixto Ramos Jr., and then George Iversen. All of which have become Professor's in the Kajukenbo System. Only Sixto Ramos remained with Sid Asuncion and attained a rank under the Kenkabo System. Sixto Ramos Jr., recieved his black belt from Sid Asuncion in 1964. At that time he decided that oneday he would instruct classes and spoke to Sid about it. Sid gave his blessings and said that whenever he was ready that he would gladly help him getstarted.

In 1965 Sixto got married to Ruth Prince. She was also a martial artist like him and recieved her black belt from Sid Asuncion. By 1970 they had two children, Chance-Wade and LaValle, a new home and had decided to open up their first karate club. It was opened in Ewa Beach. By 1972 they had their third child Shane and had opened another club at Makalapa Manor. With the training of Sixto and his wife Ruth (who had both become outstanding tournament fighters and was once considered one of the top fighters in the State), these students would become top winning tournament competitors. It was soon realized that his clubs were producing excellent fighters and winning kata performers. Later in 1976 Sixto bought another new home and moved to Mililani Town where he started his Mililani Class in 1977. Within the next few years he had his fourth child Shaz-Zarrae.

All of his children are accomplished martial artists. Like their parents they too have also competed in numerous tournaments successfully. There is now another generation of Ramos' that are carrying on the tradition as martial artists. They are his grandchildren. He has four grandsons and two granddaughters. They too are competing in tournaments. Professor Ramos is currently running classes back to where his roots come from. Back in Waipahu, at the Waipahu United Vhurch of Christ. This class wasstarted in February 2001 and already his students have gone in to participate in tournaments both in 2001 and 2002. These students, like the other students of the past are also winning. Thanks to the experience of Professor Sixto Ramos Jr., these students know and trust the knowledge of their professor and that they will become outstanding tournament competitors.

     Over the years Sixto has many black belts that are under him, both here in Hawaii and abroad. His top black belts are Professor Gordon Magallanes, 8th Degree Kenkabo-Kajukenbo, Professor Ruth Luka Ramos, 8th Degree Kajukenbo-Kenkabo, Nelson New 7th Degree Kajukenbo-Kenkabo, Robert New 7th degree Kajukenbo-Kenkabo, Alfred Lopez 5th Degree Kajukenbo-Kenkabo, Michael Samala 4th Degree Kajukenbo-Kenkabo, Jerry Ramos 4th Degree and Mel Tablor. Professor Sixto Ramos Jr., does not give out black belts easily. To those that have attained a black belt from him, they have truly deserved it. He has after all been in the Martial Arts for forty-two years now. He holds the rank of 9th degree Professor in the Kajukenbo System and also the Kenkabo System. Quite a history for a humble man that has come here from the Philippines. A man whose name is recognized all over the world.
